Swallow Physiology Masterclass

Tier 1: Normal Swallowing Practice Portal

Swallow Physiology Masterclass (Tier 1) Normal Swallowing Practice Portal is an essential start to a solid knowledge of normal swallowing physiology. You will participate in hands-on practice for deriving swallow timing measures, using a series of Modified Barium Swallow Studies of Normal Swallows, with the Videofluoroscopic Interpretation of Physiology (VIP) training program. This will include timing measures of swallowing onset, laryngeal vestibule closure, and upper esophageal sphincter opening on a range of different bolus types. The course includes access to the practice portal videos, data collection form, answer sheets and a consultation with Dr. Ianessa Humbert to review final progress. Prerequisite: 2.5 hours of recorded lectures from Tier 1 Normal Swallowing Physiology.

Welcome to the Swallow Physiology Masterclass with
Dr. Ianessa Humbert

About: Hands-on training for deriving swallow timing measures using modified barium swallow studies of normal swallows with the  Videofluoroscopic Interpretation of Physiology (VIP) program. A prerequisite for this course is Masterclass  Tier 1: Normal Swallow Physiology. 

Pricing:  $200 for 1.55 ASHA CEUs (15.5 hours of professional development)

Educational Level: Intermediate - Advanced 

Learning Objectives: As a result of this course, participants will be able to: 

1. Derive swallow reaction durations for several bolus consistencies in normal adults on videofluoroscopic recordings.

2.    Derive Laryngeal Vestibule Closure durations for several bolus consistencies in normal adults on videofluoroscopic recordings.

3.    Derive Upper Esophageal Sphincter durations for several bolus consistencies in normal adults on videofluoroscopic recordings.

Completion Requirements:

This course is not offered for partial credit. Registrants must complete the entire course to earn ASHA CEUs. Registrants must also achieve at least 80% on the VIP timing worksheet and complete the course evaluation to earn a certificate of completion.


 This course is offered for 1.55 ASHA CEUs (Advanced level, Professional area)
