Do I have to be a STEP Community subscriber to attend the symposium? Can students and CFs join?
Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend this symposium. Our goal at STEP is to make swallowing education and training accessible and affordable for students and clinicians around the world. You do NOT need to subscribe to STEP, in order to attend the symposium. Students are a big reason we are motivated to keep our attendance costs as low as $30-$50. Good quality education should not be limited to just clinicians. Although students will not receive ASHA CEUs, we still believe this would be a great learning experience for students and CFs too.
I paid for the live symposium. Do I also get free access to the recorded sessions?
No. We have registered the live and recorded courses as SEPARATE courses with ASHA. The recorded / on-demand sessions will be available on the STEP website December 21 onwards for $100. Attendees can get ASHA CEUs for the recorded course as well. However, those who wish to view the on-demand version will need to purchase the recorded course separately. Please note: Live session attendees can still purchase the recorded version if they choose, but ASHA CEUs cannot be transferred or shared between the live and recorded courses.
How many CEUs can I earn for the live sessions?
Attendees can earn up to 1.1 ASHA CEUs (11 professional development hours) for the live symposium. We have made the live version available for partial credit. You can receive partial credit for each full hour of courses viewed (from 1 hour up to 11 hours). IMPORTANT: Please keep track of how many sessions you attended, since you will need to submit this information at the end of the symposium. We will be reporting your hours to ASHA and verifying your attendance from our end as well. Attendees will also earn a Course Completion Certificate at the end of the symposium, which can be used towards most state and national certificate/licensure maintenance.
Who are the organizers and sponsors of this symposium?
The STEP Swallowing Symposium has been organized by the co-founders of STEP - Dr. Ianessa Humbert and SLP Rinki Desai. Additionally, the CE coordinator (Swallowology, LLC) for this event and co-host is SLP Rebecca Levy. You can learn more about them on our speakers page here.
